![]() In 2022, the club resumed in-person events, starting with a Tech Expo featuring the founders of five tech start-ups, all Ohio State alumni and Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Tourism. “It’s an important distinction because the government will only award scholarships to students who attend a university of choice,” he says. To that end, the club has worked closely with Indonesian government leaders to have Ohio State listed as a “university of choice” for students wishing to study abroad. Their collaborative spirit, humble approach, and continuous pursuit of excellence embody what makes this university and this special alumni club.ĭaniel Rodriguez ’17, ’21 MPA, regional engagement manager at Ohio State Alumni Association “The Alumni Club of Indonesia exemplifies a devotion to the alma mater in a way that few others can match. “We want to take this foundation forward as we engage the younger generation in Indonesia.” “We are all very proud of our connection to Ohio State, and many of us have returned from Columbus to help build our country,” Muljono said. Since the club’s founding in 2016, the self-proclaimed Indo Buckeyes have focused on business, educational, and social activities to engage alumni and promote Ohio State to Indonesian students and leaders of the country. “We are all volunteers and we give our time because we have this passion to deliver something meaningful and lasting,” says Muljono. They even raised $20,000 to buy personal protective equipment for healthcare workers to support their response to the pandemic. ![]() They sponsored online game watches to cheer on the Buckeyes. The club took its events online, hosting webinars, an education fair, a conference on the digital economy and talk shows on geopolitics and parenting. ![]() “We knew how important it was for our members to maintain their professional and social relationships, and our whole team came together to achieve this,” says Johnwei Muljono ’89, president of the club, which has around 300 members. In 2021 alone, the Buckeyes in Indonesia hosted an impressive 14 club events, the most commitments of any alumni club or society in Ohio State, the country or the foreign. Instead, they became more creative and productive. Gordon Gee Spirit Award-winning Alumni Club of Indonesia didn’t let a global pandemic dampen their enthusiasm. This award recognizes individuals and programs that demonstrate dedication to the State of Ohio and promote the spirit of the school with integrity and honor in an effort to elevate the university and its history. ![]()
